US Treasury Secretary Backs Japan's Bold Steps to Address Sharply Undervalued Yen

During a Sunday meeting with Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent voiced strong endorsement for Japan's decisive market and currency actions to tackle the yen's severe undervaluation, according to a statement from the US Treasury Department.
Bessent pointed out that the yen's weakness has intensified domestic inflationary pressures in Japan.
He also underscored to Ueda the critical importance of well-calibrated and clearly communicated monetary policy in stabilizing inflation expectations and preventing excessive exchange rate fluctuations.
