Opening Summary

The HSI retreated modestly at the bell, slipping 0.6% to hold above the 25,400 mark as investors weighed global growth worries and mainland data uncertainties. The HSCEI and HSTECH tracked the move lower, down 0.63% and 0.62%, respectively, indicating a broad but orderly pull-back across blue chips and growth counters.

Large-cap tech names were mostly under pressure, led by Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent, while Kuaishou defied the trend with a near-3% pop after upbeat user-engagement chatter. The mixed performance kept the sector in a consolidation pattern just above the 4,500 level on the HSTECH gauge.

Individual stand-outs included Edge Medical-B, up almost 5% on no immediate news, and machinery play Sany International, which rose over 4%. Conversely, recently listed AI heavyweight Z.AI slid more than 4%, extending its volatile debut week, and Baidu and Trip.com continued to face profit-taking following recent ADR weakness.

While early sector data are still forming, initial screens suggest pockets of strength in biotech and industrial machinery, whereas internet-platform and cloud names lag. No major IPO priced this morning, but several smaller listings remain in the pipeline as sentiment stabilises. Traders will monitor mainland PMI prints and upcoming U.S. macro data for further cues.
