Washington Targets Iranian Vessels Under New Reciprocal Maritime Strategy

US military forces struck two Iranian government-owned oil tankers during a round of attacks on Tuesday, according to American officials. This marks the first time US forces have directly targeted Iranian oil tankers, in a move designed to retaliate for Iran's assaults on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, rather than to prevent the vessels from breaching a maritime blockade.

An American official stated that the operation was part of a newly authorized "tanker for tanker" policy approved by President Trump, aimed at further deterring Iran and curbing its attacks on tankers transiting the strategic waterway.
