On September 3rd, the county committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) organized a specialized democratic oversight initiative regarding the development of the local elderly care industry. This move is aimed at thoroughly implementing the national strategy for addressing population aging, accurately assessing the real situation in the county's eldercare services, and tackling challenges related to facility construction, service provision, safety regulation, and resource assurance. Vice Chairman of the CPPCC County Committee, Kong Xiangrui, participated directly in the research activities.

During the process, committee members visited several key eldercare facilities, including the Xilian Nursing and Health Center, the First Central Nursing Home, the Xiaorong Elderly Care & Taiyuan Residence, and the Shanrui Restaurant's meal assistance point for senior citizens. Through a combination of on-site inspections, discussions with facility operators, and in-depth meetings, they gathered detailed information regarding operational management, age-friendly renovations, medical and convalescent services, the maintenance of fire safety equipment, and the provision of meal services. The delegation carefully listened to the practical concerns raised by staff and the elderly residents, systematically noting the current shortcomings and operational bottlenecks hindering the sector's progress.

Following the site visits, the CPPCC County Committee convened a dedicated symposium for democratic supervision. At this meeting, representatives from various functional departments, each focusing on their respective areas of responsibility, exchanged views on several topics including the implementation of eldercare policies, project planning and construction, industry safety oversight, and workforce development. They analyzed existing deficiencies and outlined their forthcoming strategies. In line with the research findings, participating CPPCC members engaged in Q&A sessions and offered suggestions concerning the construction of the elderly care service system, the enhancement of home and community-based care, the reinforcement of rural care services, and the strengthening of inter-departmental collaboration.

The CPPCC County Committee emphasized that the elderly care sector is a crucial pillar for securing and improving people's livelihoods and enhancing the well-being of the senior population, as it directly affects the fundamental interests of every family. The committee hopes that all related departments will unify their thinking and strictly adhere to the county government's work plans for developing elderly care services. Seizing this specialized oversight as an opportunity, they encouraged a problem-oriented approach, urging various units to proactively address the suggestions raised by committee members, establish a clear list of issues and recommendations, assign clear responsibilities, and complete rectification within set deadlines. This is vital to effectively translate the outcomes of democratic oversight into tangible improvements in service quality.

Furthermore, the committee advised consolidating the foundation of elderly care services to address the imbalance between urban and rural supply. They called for optimizing the quality of service offerings and refining a service system that integrates home-based, institutional, and community care models. It is also essential to fortify the safety supervision perimeter to protect the safety of the elderly and to amplify the synergy between different departments to maximize the results of consultative oversight. The CPPCC members are expected to continue focusing on the pain points and difficulties within the industry, offer precise and high-quality advice, and build social consensus to help the county perfect its elderly care service framework and drive the sector's high-quality development.
