Ren Chen, a former senior figure at Morgan Stanley, is making a comeback to the investment banking arena, with reports indicating he will join Deutsche Bank's New York office later this month. He will assume the roles of Managing Director (MD) and Global Head of Corporate and Artificial Intelligence Investment Banking, as confirmed by media sources.

Initially, Ren Chen will report to Jeff Cady, Deutsche Bank's Head of Americas Banking, but this reporting line is set to shift once Ed Liu arrives in November to take up the position of Global Head of TMT (Technology, Media, and Telecom). Following Liu's onboarding, Ren Chen's reporting structure will transition accordingly.

Prior to this move, Ren Chen served as Chief Strategy Officer at WeRide, a Chinese autonomous driving company. Before that, he spent ten months at AI startup Reka AI, where he held dual roles as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Business Officer. His extensive background also includes a 14-year tenure at Morgan Stanley prior to his venture into the tech sector.

The news of his departure from Morgan Stanley, where he was the Global Head of Internet Investment Banking, surfaced in November 2023. In a social media post, Ren Chen expressed his motivation for the transition, stating: "Over the past three years, I have genuinely come to believe that artificial intelligence will bring disruptive changes to every aspect of our lives. It is this conviction that has led me to join Deutsche Bank."
