Iranian President Confirms Internal Consensus on Strait of Hormuz Passage Plan

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has announced that Tehran has reached an internal agreement on a proposed shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, though the reopening of the vital waterway hinges on the United States fulfilling a set of four commitments.

During an interview with the official ISNA news agency, Pezeshkian stated that these commitments include the lifting of sanctions on oil and petrochemical products, the release of frozen Iranian funds, and the restoration of conditions that would allow investment to resume.

The president explained that a "middle path" had been carefully crafted by a collaborative team of experts, military and security officials, and negotiators, with the proposal having been submitted to the Supreme Leader for final approval.

In addition to the maritime issues, Pezeshkian outlined domestic measures under consideration, including a proposed increase in gasoline prices to 10,000 Iranian toman per liter. The government is also evaluating the possibility of closing some public offices during the winter months as a strategy to curb electricity, natural gas, and fuel consumption while simultaneously reducing traffic demand.

"We have proposed remote work for certain government agencies during the winter," Pezeshkian said. "At the very least, this would prevent them from consuming electricity, natural gas, or gasoline."
