The Thai government has ordered a halt on construction for 49 data center projects as it prepares to introduce fresh regulations for the industry.
Danucha Pichayanan, Secretary-General of Thailand's National Economic and Social Development Council, announced the suspension at a press conference on Friday, explaining that new regulatory frameworks and guidelines are being drafted for both existing data centers and those slated to begin operations.
The Data Center Regulatory Committee of Thailand, chaired by the Finance Minister, convened its inaugural meeting on Friday. Danucha indicated that the committee expects to unveil the new rules and regulations governing data center operators within the coming month.
