Honda, Nissan Strike Deal to Standardize Technologies for Software-Defined Vehicles

Honda Motor (HMC) and Nissan Motor have agreed to jointly develop and standardize electronic control units and in-vehicle operating system for next-generation software-defined vehicles, the companies said Monday.
Under the agreement, the companies will establish common specifications for the ECUs, operating system, key parts of middleware and vehicle control software.
The collaboration is intended to improve development efficiency, accelerate innovation and reduce costs through greater economies of scale, the companies said.
The jointly developed ECUs and software are planned for roll-out starting fiscal 2029.
