President Donald Trump claimed on X on August 30 that after he announced his 2024 presidential run, Ford Motor Company's large Detroit plant, which was initially slated for closure, remained open because he led in the polls. The facility now operates 24/7 and has become one of the most profitable car plants in the world, according to Trump.

Trump asserted that his tariff policies "revived and indeed saved" the automobile business in the United States, citing similar cases at Ford, General Motors, and other automakers. He singled out Canada as "one of the worst abusers," saying, "I don't want Canadian cars, I don't want Canadian parts, I don't want Canadian anything." He accused Canada of "ripping us off for decades" and vowed to stop it. Trump added that Canada "want to be treated like a State, but they aren't one" and described Canada as "the worst" among countries he deals with.
