China's Official Non-Manufacturing PMI Stalls in August

Business activity in China's non-manufacturing sector stalled in August, with the official non-manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) coming in at 49.0, unchanged from July, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics released Monday.

A reading above 50 indicates expansion, while a figure below signals a contraction.

The latest print missed the consensus forecast of 49.5 tracked by Investing.com, and compared with the 49 recorded in the previous month.

By industry, the business activity index for the services sector remained at 49.3, while the subindex for the construction industry fell to 46.9 from 47 in July.

Among the main sub-indices, the new orders index slipped to 44.1 from 44.4, the input price index rose to 51.1 from 49.7, the employment index remained at 45.4, while the business activity expectation index fell to 55 from 55.4 in July.
