SK hynix (KRX:000660) is evaluating potential locations in Japan for a memory chip manufacturing expansion to meet soaring AI demand while managing costs, Bloomberg News reported on Monday, citing Chairman Chey Tae-won in an interview.

The company is looking for sites with a good supply of power and water, but declined to specify partners or locations, the news wire said.

The move is part of a global capacity buildout that includes a $39 billion Korean expansion and a new Indiana packaging facility, the publication said.
